Flaga is 50 km further from totality than Vík would have been
The umbra crosses only western Iceland. From Flaga, greater Reykjavík is 3 h 15 away and the good Reykjanes spots are 3 h 45 to 3 h 55, so your 3.5 hour rule rules most of them out. Exactly one strong spot survives it.
Vegagerðin starts traffic management at 08:00 and expects heavy congestion across the west, so the real drive will be longer than the map says. Roads at Grótta, Ægisíða, Suðurgata and Álftanes are closed or one-way from 15:00 to 20:00.

Kálfatjörn at 3 h 30 is the answer to your rule: the longest totality inside 3.5 hours, and 23 seconds more than Álftanes. Garðskagi would give 1m 43s but needs 3 h 55 each way from Flaga.

Clear-sky odds on the west coast are about one in three, and you said Reykjavík only if it is sunny. If the morning forecast is poor, option C stays at Flaga for a 97% partial and saves seven hours of driving. Chasing better cloud means Snæfellsnes, which is five hours from Flaga and not realistic.
Pack for a fifteen hour day out: full tank, all her food and nappies, warm layers, blankets, a torch, water. The temperature drops noticeably inside the umbra. Roadside stopping is prohibited that day.

Being at Flaga instead of Vík pays off today. The whole of options A and B fits in one day with less driving than the Jökulsárlón run alone would have taken from Vík.

Fjaðrárgljúfur is 25 minutes away, so do it first while she is fresh. 1,000 ISK parking, lower viewpoint 10–15 minutes, unfenced drops on the upper path.
Skaftafell 55 minutes further. Skaftafellsjökull viewpoint is a flat 45 minute return walk to the glacier snout. Svartifoss is 45 minutes uphill each way, carrier only, and is the part to drop if time is short.
Jökulsárlón another 40 minutes. Amphibian boat: 30–40 minutes, no minimum age, adults 7,100 ISK, ages 6–12 3,500 ISK, 0–5 free. Boats every 15 minutes. Book ahead.
Zodiac boats need age 10, so they are out.
Diamond Beach is five minutes from the lagoon car park. Home in one 1 h 45 run.
From Flaga this is a seven hour round trip, an hour more than it would have been from Vík. Your rule was Reykjavík area if sunny and under 3.5 hours, and exactly one good spot satisfies it.

Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey, Kerið and the Secret Lagoon
Rough shape: leave 10:00, Reynisfjara 10:50, Dyrhólaey 11:40, Kerið 14:30, Secret Lagoon 15:35, Reykjavík about 18:30.
Reynisfjara: sneaker waves have killed visitors. Obey the light at the entrance, red means closed. Feb 2026 storms stripped sand and exposed boulders, so it is steeper than in most photos.
Dyrhólaey is ten minutes on and gives the same view from a clifftop with no wave risk. Unfenced edges, carrier only.
If the day is running late, Kerið is the one to drop. It is 30 minutes of walking for a 700 ISK crater and it costs you an hour with the detour.
You wrote Dyrhólaey twice, so I have read the second as Reynisdrangar, which you see from both.
Þingvellir: park at the upper car park (P1) and take the boardwalk down Almannagjá. Pushchair works.
Geysir: Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes. The ground beside the path is boiling, so carry her or hold her hand.
Friðheimar: lunch inside a working tomato greenhouse. Tomato soup with unlimited bread about 3,740 ISK. Kitchen serves 11:30 to 16:00. Must be pre-booked and it sells out.
Gullfoss: the upper viewpoint is paved from the car park. The lower stairs are steep and permanently wet.
Zoo open 10:00–18:00 in summer: seals, arctic fox, reindeer, farm animals, small rides. Ages 0–5 free, 6–12 1,050 ISK, adults 1,500 ISK.
Hallgrímskirkja: the tower lift gives the view over the coloured roofs. It is a church, not the cathedral; Dómkirkjan by the parliament is the actual cathedral if you want that instead.
Lava Show on Grandi melts real basalt to 1,100 °C and pours it into the room. Roughly 50 minutes.
On age: there is no hard minimum and she can come on a child ticket, but they do not recommend it under 5 and seat babies in the third row near an exit. It is dark, loud and suddenly very hot. Book the earliest slot and sit by the door.
Grandi also has Whales of Iceland next door if the show is a bust.
All short walks: Seltún boardwalk, Kleifarvatn, Brimketill lava pool, the Bridge Between Continents, and Garðskagi’s two lighthouses with a café looking west.
Ends 20 minutes from the terminal, so you can eat at Garðskagi and drive straight in.
Check almannavarnir.is that morning. The eruption series north of Grindavík has been quiet since 5 August 2025, but the Met Office reported in April 2026 that magma storage is the highest of the series so far.

Her car seat
Iceland requires rear-facing to 15 months and 76 cm. At 16 months she may legally turn forward. Nordic guidance is rear-facing to about four, and you will drive roughly 1,700 km. The rules in full.
Seats must carry European approval (i-Size / R129 or ECE R44). A US-certified seat is not legal here. Check the rental seat fits your car in the car park at 00:30, before you drive off.
Carrier and pushchair
The pushchair works in Reykjavík, at Skógafoss, on the Þingvellir boardwalk and at Gullfoss’s upper viewpoint.
Everything else is gravel, wind or steps. The carrier is what opens up Svartifoss, Dyrhólaey, the Arnarstapi path and several hours standing in a field on the 12th.
Weather and roads
Mid-August: about 14 °C by day, 9 °C at night, 8–12 rain days across the month. Wind is the bigger factor. August averages.
For her, every day: waterproof shell, fleece, hat, spares. Check vedur.is the night before, road.is in the morning, and safetravel.is for alerts.
Food, and the Flaga problem
Flaga has no shop. The nearest are the small Krónan in Vík (37 minutes west) and the Kjarval in Kirkjubæjarklaustur (26 minutes east). Neither is a full supermarket.
So the shop at Bónus or Krónan in Selfoss on day 1 matters more than it would have from Vík. Open 10:00 to 20:00. Buy for three days, not one.
Skyr, bananas, cucumbers, rye bread and hot dogs are easy toddler food. Nappies, wipes and formula are in every Krónan, Bónus and Lyfja. Tap water is excellent; the hot tap smells of sulphur and is harmless.
Driving
Single-lane bridges, blind rises, sheep on the road. 90 km/h paved, 80 gravel. Slow down when the surface changes; gravel is where rental damage happens.
Off-road driving is illegal. Plan a stop every 90 minutes. N1 and Olís stations have toilets and changing space.
